Transition

Year 2 – Year 3

Year 2 pupils from Ton Pentre Infants’ School who will be joining us in Year 3 will be invited to visit us for a day in the Summer Term.  This Transition Day will give them the opportunity to meet the pupils of the school, most of whom they will be familiar with, as well as familiarising themselves with their new surroundings and teachers.  When your child visits Ton Pentre Junior School, they will stay for the majority of the day, will have lunch in our canteen and will be allocated their Buddy.

We hold a question and answer session where a group of Year 3 pupils visit the infant school to discuss their time in Year 3 and it gives the Year 2 pupils an opportunity to ask the pupils a variety of questions.

We also hold a Year 2 Parents’ Information Evening at the school.  Parents are given the opportunity to learn more about the school and ask questions in small informal groups to the staff.  Useful information and documentation is given out to all parents.

Pupils also hold their Annual Leaver’s Service at our school hall.  Family members are welcome and Father Hayden is invited to say a few words.

Year 6 – Year 7

Children transfer to Secondary School in the September following their 11th birthday.  The process starts before that when parents receive information from the school about the Year 6 - 7 transfer.  All children usually transfer to Treorchy Comprehensive School.  We are very fortunate to have excellent links with the school and work hard to ensure a smooth transition for pupils moving from primary to secondary education.

The Cluster of Primary Schools that feed into Treorchy Comprehensive School produces an active Annual Transition Plan and our Upper Key Stage 2 staff work closely with Treorchy Comprehensive School Staff.

Throughout their time, in Year 6, pupils are given a number of opportunities to experience life at Treorchy Comprehensive School e.g.

Extra-curricular experience activity days
Participation in the Key Stage 3 Transition Concert
Core Subject Activity Days for MAT pupils
Transition Day

We aim to ensure that:

Children are well prepared for transfer and feel secure about entry into Secondary Education
That curriculum continuity and children’s educational progress are both maintained
That parents / carers are informed and consulted about transfer arrangements
