School Information
Ton Pentre Junior School is a mixed county junior school for children between the ages of 7 and 11, administered by Rhondda Cynon Taff Local Authority and situated in the village of Ton Pentre, Rhondda. The school serves a well established community of a mixture of Local Authority housing, traditional terraced houses together with modern private dwellings.
The school is a well maintained, traditionally built school. The building dates back to the 19th century, though much has been done in refurbishment to further both the longevity and appearance.
The school is split into 2 phases – Lower School and Upper School. The Lower School consists of pupils in Years 3 and 4 and we have 3 classes in this phase of the school. The Upper School consists of pupils in Years 5 and 6 and we have 3 classes in this phase.
Both phases have their own entrances, cloakroom areas and ICT facilities are available in all classrooms.
We have a designated multi-purpose hall for Physical Education and Collective Worship, an activity marked playground, a number of learning support areas and a canteen.
We have large, bright and airy classrooms available for all activities. The six classrooms are equipped with the latest interactive technology, each with their own C Board Touch, plus PCs, laptops and iPads. All technology is networked and linked to the internet. Every child in the school has access to their own laptop. This ensures that children’s learning is not only stimulating but also effective for education in the 21st century. We believe the school to be well resourced and that it provides a secure, attractive environment to maximise learning opportunities.
We have one Year 3 class, a Year 3/4 mixed class, one Year 4 class, one Year 5 class, a Year 5/6 mixed class and one Year 6 class. For the most part, teachers are responsible for teaching the whole curriculum, although in a few instances, exchange of classes may occur to make use of specialist skills.
The ethos of the school is to provide a secure, nurturing and happy atmosphere where children feel safe and valued. The school encourages high standards in all aspects of school life. Children are encouraged to discuss a problem with any member of staff at any time. They are also taught that there is a time when they must work, and a time when they can play. Emphasis is placed on self discipline and social co-operation and to take responsibility for and consequences of their actions. We have expectations for the safety and well being of the children; these are displayed throughout the school and are explained and reinforced during the day to day running of the school.
